Financial Incentives to Grow Your Own Power

There are many renewable energy incentive programs and rebates available for homes and businesses.

To search for available incentives and rebates in your area visit this link: DSIRE and click on your state to find a list of participating utilities and entities in your area.

State and local rebates combined with federal tax credits can cover as much as 40% to 60% of the cost of a solar water heating or photovoltaic system.

Why are tax credits a great incentive? First a disclaimer. We are not offering legal or tax advice. You must consult a qualified CPA or tax attorney about your situation.

In general, a TAX DEDUCTION is an expense or an amount of money which lowers your taxable income. It is subtracted "off-the-top" from the amount of money you made throughout the year, your gross income, therefore reducing your adjusted gross income, or AGI, which is used to calculate your tax liability.

A TAX CREDIT reduces your tax liability (the amount you pay to the federal government) dollar-for-dollar, regardless of your AGI or tax bracket. This is why tax credits can be much more valuable as an incentive than a tax deduction.

Generate reliable clean power efficiently on your site. Did you know that electricity has been generated by hydro, wind, biomass and other renewable resources in the United States for more than a century?

Why should you choose alternative energy to power and heat your home

  • Benefit from cash rebate and tax credit programs;

  • Reduce or eliminate electric bills;

  • Hedge against utility rate hikes;

  • Invest in a durable power or heating system that will increase the value of your home or business without increasing property taxes;

  • Reduce America's dependence on imported fossil fuels;

  • Reduce your carbon footprint to reduce global warming.
