State and local rebates combined with federal tax credits can cover as much as 40% to 60% of the cost of a solar water heating or photovoltaic system.

Why are tax credits a great incentive? First a disclaimer. We are not offering legal or tax advice. You must consult a qualified CPA or tax attorney about your situation.

In general, a TAX DEDUCTION is an expense or an amount of money which lowers your taxable income. It is subtracted "off-the-top" from the amount of money you made throughout the year, your gross income, therefore reducing your adjusted gross income, or AGI, which is used to calculate your tax liability.

A TAX CREDIT reduces your tax liability (the amount you pay to the federal government) dollar-for-dollar, regardless of your AGI or tax bracket. This is why tax credits can be much more valuable as an incentive than a tax deduction.

COMMERCIAL -
The ITC is the investment tax credit for businesses and allows you to deduct 30% of the total project cost with labor and materials the first year. The balance of 70% can be split up over the next 4-5 years. This allows the business to get 100% write off and energy savings. We are not offering legal or tax advice. You must consult a qualified CPA or tax attorney about your situation.

Generate reliable clean power efficiently on your site. Did you know that electricity has been generated by hydro, wind, biomass and other renewable resources in the United States for more than a century?
